Hopatcong’s Matt Tobin set a new Hopatcong High School career scoring record with his 39-point performance in Tuesday’s 74-34 victory over Wallkill Valley.

Tobin surpassed his father Dennis Tobin to set the record which now stands at 2,112 points. Matt Tobin needed 18 going into the contest to reach his father’s record of 2,091 points which was set in 1978.

He got off to a fast start and tied the record late in the first quarter by hitting a pair of free throws. He broke it by hitting a running jumper with 7:15 left in the first half. A complete story of Hopatcong basketball’s historic evening can be found on the Hopatcong Patch site.
