Blistering second quarter lifts Mount Olive past West Morris

Mount Olive scored 38 second-quarter points and cruised to an 84-76 triumph over West Morris in boys basketball action on Tuesday.

Kevin Miller scored 24 points including six 3-pointers. Zach Heenan scored 15 points and Justin Palanchi added 12 to fuel the Marauders triumph. Mount Olive is 14-4 on the season.

Pat Barron scored 26 points to pace the Highlanders in a non-division game between two neighboring schools.

Mount Olive had a monster first half. The Marauders led 27-14 at the half and then exploded with a 38-13 second-quarter effort to take a commanding 65-27 halftime advantage. Mount Olive hit 12 of its 15 three-point shots in the first half.

The Marauders halted their full-court pressure and played zone defense most of the second half as the Highlanders chipped away at their lead. Mount Olive led by double-digits until the final seconds when West Morris had a 30-7 fourth-quarter effort to make it close.

Games of note

Morristown-Beard 72, Kinnelon 47Senior guard Tyler Terens had 17 points and 10 assists. Chris Jenkins and Brian Bartner scored 15 points each for the unbeaten Crimson (17-0). Morristown-Beard went on a 20-7 first quarter run and built a 42-20 halftime advantage. Evan Angirou scored 11 points and Chris Villante had 10 points for the Colts.

Morris Hills 63, Morristown 48 — The Scarlet Knights started and finished strong. They took a 25-12 first quarter lead and ended the game with a 14-4 effort.

Jefferson 61, Hackettstown 60, OTThe Falcons led 29-19 at halftime but a strong second half by the Tigers forced the overtime in a contest held in Hackettstown.

Parsippany Hills 65, Dover 50The Vikings had a strong second half including a 20-15 fourth quarter run to finish off the Tigers.
