Date is set for Morris-Sussex Classic


The Morris-Sussex Senior All-Star Classic is being moved to Thursday, March 21st it was announced during the Morris County Boys Basketball Coaching Association end-of-the-season meeting. The showcase, which was originally slated for Tuesday the 19th, will still be held at Mount Olive High School. The exhibition is a 7 p.m. start.

The selections for the Morris squad were agreed upon by the coaches but have not been confirmed depending upon the availability of the players involved. The Morris team will be coached by Mount Olive’s Kevin Moore and Hanover Park’s Ryan Hartman.

Some of the Morris County players invited to compete include: Ryan Harris of Randolph, Ryan Curran of Delbarton, Ryan Kelley of Roxbury, A. J. Holleran and Jake Waddon of Whippany Park, Pat Barron of West Morris, Matt Williams of Hanover Park, Paul Tarnawski of Mountain Lakes, Brian O’Neill of Morris Knolls and Bobby Stolz of Mendham.

The Sussex team has already been determined. It includes John Mutch and Mike Pagnetti of High Point, Dan Leppert of Kittatinny, Tom Hoyt of Lenape Valley, Daniel Griffin of Newton, Steve Zignorski and Rafael Mekongo of Pope John, Zach Frick and Jake Melville of Sparta, Justin Dinelle of Vernon and Cody Hillbert of Wallkill Valley. Newton’s Dirk Kelly and Sparta’s Brian Brennan will coach the Sussex squad.

Morris defeated Sussex, 147-138 in last year’s showcase. Randolph’s Julian Aiken scored 30 points and game MVP Niko Kotoulas of Morris Knolls added 24. Vernon’s Doug Tintle paced Sussex with 25 points.
