Report: Heeman gives verbal to play football for Rutgers


Football recruiting web sites including are reporting that Mount Olive’s Zach Heeman has given a verbal commitment to play football at Rutgers University.

Heeman the 6-foot-8, 265-pound center, just completed his junior season for the Marauders which finished at 23-6 after falling to Sparta in the North I, Group III sectional semifinals. He average 18.5 points and nearly double-digit rebounds for Mount Olive. He also attained the 1,000-point milestone as a junior and was selected the Most Valuable Player for the Morris County Tournament champion team.

Internet reports said that he made an unofficial visit to the Rutgers campus on Thursday to spend time with Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood and his assistants. His decision is the fifth verbal commitment for Rutgers for the class of 2014 and the fourth New Jersey recruit to pledge.

Heeman reportedly first visited Rutgers on March 5. He and his family were part of a group of recruits and relatives that took in the Rutgers men’s basketball game against Marquette.
