Mount Olive bounces back; HP, Knolls triumph

Morriscountyvarsityboysbasketball Rashaan Spencer scored 22 points and Zach Heeman added 17 to lift Mount Olive to a 79-65 triumph over Chatham in boys basketball action on Monday.

Ryan Traub added 10 points including three 3-pointers for the Marauders (1-1). The contest was a rematch of last year’s Morris County Tournament final teams. It was a good win for Mount Olive which suffered a frustrating loss at the buzzer against Sparta to open the season on Friday.

Senior guard Robert Raiola scored 19 points and Graham Delaney added 14 for the Cougars (1-1). Mount Olive took the lead with a 22-10 second-quarter run that helped it build a 43-27 halftime advantage. The Marauders led by as much as 60-33 with about two minutes left in the third quarter before the Cougars rallied.

Chatham capitalized on some sloppy play and went on an 18-3 run. A Raiola rebound and layup at around the six-minute mark of the fourth quarter made it a 63-51. However, the Cougars never reduced their deficit to single digits.
