Morris Hills, Roxbury post MCT upsets

Matt Toohey scored 16 points to lift Morris Hills to a 60-54 upset victory of Mountain Lakes in the preliminary round Morris County Tournament contest. A 21-12 second-quarter effort gave the 19th-seeded Scarlet Knights a 34-25 halftime advantage. Bill Morin scored 11 and Dillon Washington added 10 for Morris Hills (5-10). The Scarlet Knights face third-seeded Morristown next Saturday.

Roxbury 48, Morris Knolls 41

Jack Clevenger scored 16 points and Doug Alexander had 12 to lift the 18th-seeded Gaels to an upset triumph. Grant Dixon chipped in with 10 points for Roxbury, which plays Jefferson in the next round. The Gaels jumped out to a 14-5 first-quarter advantage. Ryan Bornemann and Carroll Rich scored 10 points each for 15th-seeded Morris Knolls.

Whippany Park 53, Delbarton 49

Ryan Gaynor scored 11 points and Ryan Cahill and Joe Michalewski scored 10 points each for the 17th-seeded Wildcats. Whippany Park took a 30-18 halftime advantage and withstood a 20-10 fourth-quarter run. The Wildcats have the task of facing top seeded and defending champion Mount Olive. Seamus Craugh had 16 points for 16th-seeded Delbarton.

Morristown-Beard 48, Parsippany Hills 40

Stephen Sangree scored 11 points to lift the ninth-seeded Crimson. Matt McFadden added nine points for Morristown-Beard. The Crimson pulled away with a 19-11 third-quarter spree. Vincent Mondo scored eight points for the Vikings.

Montville 63, Butler 44

Eric Werheim had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Jesse Warech contributed 13 points for the Mustangs. Jacob Kaplan added 11 points and Jacob Coleman chipped in with 10 for Montville (9-5). The Mustangs took control early with a 28-7 first quarter run. Montville faces No. 7 Chatham in the next round. Nick Ballistreri scored 16 points for the 23rd-seeded Bulldogs (4-10).

Morris Catholic 68, Parsippany 59

Wayne Patterson posted a 26-point performance to spark the eighth-seeded Crusaders. Amir Hamilton added 14 points and Amir Allen had 11 points and 17 rebounds for Morris Catholic. The Crusaders host Morristown-Beard next week. Leonard Lee scored 18 points and Lionel Chambers had 17 for the Red Hawks.

Randolph 71, Boonton 43

Barry Lynch scored 22 points including seven 3-pointers to spark the 12th-seeded Rams. Patrick Archer scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Ben Kapinos added 12 points for Randolph. The Rams challenge 5th-seeded Hanover Park next. Sammy Asari scored 11 points and Chris D’Avonzo added 10 for the 21st-seeded Bombers.

Dover 67, Kinnelon 40

Ryan Chayshyn scored 24 points to spark the 13th-seeded Tigers to victory. Dover plays fourth-seeded Mendham in the next round. Dover pulled away with a 27-13 third quarter run. Eric Hausler scored 13 points and Jaison Buchanan added 10 points for 20th-seeded Kinnelon.

Pequannock 53, Madison 42

Kevin Glynn had 14 points and Bryan Peters added 10 to spark the 11th-seeded Golden Panthers. Pequannock took control early and led 28-12 at the half. Pequannock plays West Morris in the next round. Kevin Armstrong scored 13 points for 22nd-seeded Madison.

Regular season

Mount Olive 91, Tottenville (NY) 72

Rashaan Spencer and Zach Heeman scored 19 points apiece to propel the Marauders in a road victory. Ryan Traub and Donte Wise each added 16 and Chris Grillo added 11 for Mount Olive.
