West Morris and Roxbury advance to HSL final

HOPATCONG — Roxbury meets West Morris in the title game of the Hopatcong Summer League for boys basketball. The game will be played on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. in the old gym at Hopatcong High School.

The 10-team league had its playoffs on Monday after a strong week of two-a-day games.

West Morris, the second seed, defeated Morris Hills and Jefferson to reach the final. West Morris won the semifinal round contest 60-50.

Third-seeded Jefferson led 25-24 at the half, but an 8-0 run midway through the second half helped West Morris take control. The Wolfpack led by double-digits for most of the final 10 minutes.

Roxbury, the fifth-seed, topped fourth-seeded Sparta in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the Gaels defeated surprising top-seed Dover 65-31. Doug Alexander scored 10 of the first 12 points to give Roxbury a 12-0 lead to start the game. Roxbury had a 33-17 advantage at the half and built on its lead much of the second half. Other teams that competed at the varsity level included: Hopatcong, North Warren, Wallkill Valley and High Point.
