Mendham, Roxbury capture tournament titles

Brian Kenez scored 21 points to lift Mendham to a 38-35 victory over Wayne Valley to capture the J. P. Flynn Tournament title in the championship game held at the Delbarton School in Morristown.

The Minutemen rallied from a 22-15 halftime deficit to capture the tournament.

Kenez scored 21 points and grabbed four rebounds to earn MVP honors. Mendham outscored its opponents 23-13 in the second half to earn the narrow victory. Mendham emerged unbeaten in the 3-day tournament and is 4-1 on the season.

Delbarton 70, Morris Catholic 51

The Green Wave led 40-25 at the half and maintained an advantage the rest of the way in the consolation round contest. Delbarton is 4-1 on the season. The Crusaders drop to 2-3.

Hopatcong Holiday Tournament

Roxbury 43, Voorhees 31

Grant Dixon’s 12-point effort paced the Gaels in the tournament’s championship game. Steven Loreng had 10 points and seven assists. Roxbury’s 18-4 third-quarter effort built a 34-16  advantage going into the final period. The Gaels are 3-1.

Hopatcong 53, Whippany Park 51

The Chiefs edged the Wildcats in the consolation round of the tournament.

Ryan Gaynor had 18 points and four rebounds, Joe Michaelewski had 14 points and Mark Basista added 12 points in the loss. Whippany Park is 2-2.

Knolls Tournament

Jefferson 57, Morris Knolls 51

Jared Shuster scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished four assists for the Falcons (2-0). Connor Brown added 13 points and six rebounds for Jefferson, which rallied from a 37-24 halftime deficit. Michael Chapman scored 11 points to lead all Golden Eagles’ scorers. Morris Knolls is 2-1.

Jefferson will play Scotch Plains-Fanwood in Tuesday’s final. Morris Knolls plays Governor Livingston in the consolation.

Cougar Classic

Chatham 83, Nutley 28

The Cougars went on a 22-5 first-quarter run and never looked back. Chatham is 3-1 on the season.

New Providence 77, Hanover Park 71

The Hornets drop to 3-2. Michael Boeckel, John Crown and Brad Daugherty scored 12 points each and Donny Dattolo had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Hornets.

Joe Silver Tournament

Hillside 72, Randolph 70, OT

Kevin Leary scores 17 points and Luke Nathan added 15 for the Rams in the late Sunday semifinal contest.

Blue and Gold Tournament

Pequannock 51, Asbury Park 41

Bryan Peters scored 16 points and James Hitchcock added 12 points to spark the Golden Panthers (2-1) in opening round play. Pequannock built a 41-32 advantage after three quarters to earn an opening round tournament win.

Livingston 62, Mountain Lakes 45

The Lancers pulled away with a 21-9 third-quarter run. The Lakers are 1-2.

Al Lobalbo Classic

Piscataway Tech 63, Morristown-Beard 49

The Crimson led 28-15 after the first quarter but their advantage evaporated by halftime in the tournament consolation game. The Crimson drop to 1-4 despite 14-point performances by Brian Monaghan and Matt Stark.

Technical School Tournament

Koinonia 40, Morris Tech 37

The Devils drop to 1-3. Sami Doganay scored 11 points and David Douglas had eight for Morris Tech in the New Jersey Technical School Tournament game.

Len Sepanak Tournament

Ridge 64, Morristown 43

The Red Devils led 19-7 after the first quarter and the Colonials couldn’t recover. Morristown falls to 2-2.

Regular Season

Madison 55, Parsippany Hills 33

Michael Bangs scored 18 points to pace the Dodgers to their first win of the season. P. J. Mulcahy contributed 10 points and Jesse Paradiso added seven for Madison (1-3). The Dodgers used a 21-7 third-quarter spurt to build a 48-22 advantage going into the final period.

Joe Silver Tournament
