Chatham, Mendham advance to MCT title game


Chatham and Mendham advanced to the Morris County Tournament title game after semifinal round triumphs held at County College of Morris in Randolph on Saturday.

The title game will be played next Saturday at 7 p.m. also at CCM.

Colin McKenna scored 16 points and Graham Delaney added 12 to lift Chatham to 50-32 win over Morristown in the opening game of the semifinal round.

Tristan LeMon added nine points for the Cougars (17-5)

Sophomore forward Kevin Hoehn scored eight points and senior guard Jack Mongey had seven for the seventh seeded Colonials (11-9). Morristown was last year’s MCT finalist.

Chatham took advantage of its superior size and never trailed. The third-seeded Cougars led 13-5 at the end of the first quarter and 22-9 at the half.

Morristown tried to rally but its long distance shooting faltered. The Colonials only hit three 3-pointers all game and they all came when the Cougar had a double-digit lead.

Mendham 56, Hanover Park 47

Mendham received a career-high 19 points from Keith Hall to advance to the title game. Brian Kenez added 14 points and eight rebounds and Brendan O’Donnell chipped in with nine points for the fourth-seeded Minutemen (17-5).

Matt Winschuh scored 15 points, John Crown had 12 and Donny Dattolo added 11 for eighth-seeded Hanover Park (17-7).

Mendham led 25-17 at the half and maintained an advantage going into the fourth quarter. Hanover Park tried to rally with the help of Winschuh, who erupted for 13 fourth-quarter points including three 3-pointers. Winschuh’s last 3-pointer made it 52-47 with inside a minute to play. However, Mendham went 4 for 6 at the free throw line in the final seconds and the Hornets didn’t get another basket.

Regular Season

Montville 73, Kinnelon 53

Erik Weirheim had 21 points and 16 rebounds to lift the Mustangs. Montville led 33-26 at the half and slowly pulled away. Jacob Coleman and Jacob Kaplan added 17 points each for Montville.

John Hamil had 10 points for the Colts.

Delbarton 64, Whippany Park 59

Robbie Price scored 17 points and Steve Clapp scored 16 to lift the Green Wave (10-12). Mark Batista had 20 points and 11 steals, Stephen Tucker scored 15 points and Ryan Gaynor added 10 points for the Wildcats.

Montclair 55, Roxbury 38 

Steven Loreng, Grant Dixon and Doug Alexander scored eight points each for the Gaels.

Parsippany 60, Boonton 46

Ryan Orr scored 24 points, Heyden Cerrato had 11 points and Deandre Fils-Aime notched 10 for the Red Hawks (9-15). Chris D’Avanzo and Farzad Messaq scored 10 points each for the Bomber.

Immaculata 65, Morris Catholic 53

Amir Allen scored 22 points for the Crusaders.


Randolph 51, West Morris 46

Julian Boykins scored 12 points and Ben Kapinos added 10 points for the Rams. Randolph had a 14-5 second quarter run to take a 25-19 lead at the half. The Rams are 6-15. Conor Barron scored 18 points and Sean McElwaine added 12 for the Wolfpack.

Jefferson 61, Mountain Lakes 57 

Anthony Anderson scored 25 points and Jared Shuster added 11 points for the Falcons. Jefferson took control with a 15-8 second-quarter run to take a 32-29 edge at the half. Conor Asay added 10 points for the Falcons (17-5). Tate Gillie scored 18 points and Chris Boyhan added 10 points for the Lakers.

North Warren 57, Boonton 50

Chris D’Avanzo scored 19 points and Josh Smith added 17 for the Bombers.
