Mo-Beard stuns Mendham in MCT


Brian Monaghan’s 25-point effort lifted Morristown-Beard to a 53-45 triumph over Mendham in opening round Morris County Tournament play. Justin Rodriguez added 18 points for the 11th-seeded Crimson. Morristown-Beard advances to play third-seeded Morris Catholic in quarterfinal round action next week. Sixth-seeded Mendham drops to 8-10.

Whippany Park 64, Morris Knolls 55

Ryan Gaynor’s 27-point effort propelled the eighth-seeded Wildcats to victory. Whippany Park rallied from a 28-25 halftime deficit. Mark Basista scored 20 points and Stephen Tucker added eight points for the Wildcats. Whippany Park rallied from a 39-32 third-quarter deficit. Christian Bornemann scored 16 points and Mike Chapman had 14 for the ninth-seeded Golden Eagles.

Delbarton 87, Mount Olive 64

Stephen Clapp scored 27 points to spark the seventh-seeded Green Wave. Ryan Criqui and Dan Cimaglia added 11 points apiece for Delbarton (8-9). Jason Drury scored 16 points and Brandon Hood added 10 points for the 10th-seeded Marauders.

Hanover Park 79, Mountain Lakes 63

Matthew Winschuh and John Crown each scored 26 points to pace the fifth-seeded Hornets. Winschuh hit six 3-pointers and Donny Dattolo and Matthew Pitts scored 12 points apiece for Hanover Park. The Hornets took control early with a 24-10 run in the first quarter. Hanover Park faces Morristown next.

Morris Catholic 64, Roxbury 42

Amir Allen had 18 points and 14 rebounds to fuel the third-seeded Crusaders. Rob Birstonas added 20 points and seven rebounds. Morris Catholic took control early with a 16-6 first quarter run, Steven Loreng had eight points for the 19th-seeded Gaels.

Morristown 53, Dover 41

Kevin Hoehn scored 16 points and Luke Haralampoudis added 12 to fuel the fourth-seeded Colonials’ triumph. Colin Brunnock added 10 points. Morristown took a 16-6 first-quarter lead. Dwayne Brown scored 15 points for the Tigers.

Randolph 55, Pequannock 29

The second-seeded Rams led 16-4 after the first quarter and pulled away with a strong second half.

Chatham 38, Jefferson 37 

Colin McKenna scored 14 points and the top-seeded Cougars avoided an early round upset. Chatham rallied from an 18-17 halftime deficit with a 13-7 effort in the third quarter. Steven Breeman scored 10 points and Jared Shuster added nine points for the 16th-seeded Falcons.
