Hanover Park, Morris Catholic, Randolph, Chatham advance in MCT


Donny Dattolo scored 23 points to help Hanover Park edge Morristown 68-62 in overtime in the quarterfinal round of the Morris County Tournament held at Randolph High School on Saturday.

The fifth-seeded Hornets join top-seeded Chatham, second-seeded Randolph and third-seeded Morris Catholic in advancing to next week’s semifinals at County College of Morris in Randolph.

John Crown scored 15 points including a lay up at the buzzer to tie the game 50-all at the end of regulation. Matt Winschuh added 14 points for the Hornets. Hanover Park outscored Morristown 18-12 in a lively overtime period. The Hornets play Chatham in the semifinal.

Rohan Walker and Kevin Hoehn scored 16 points each for fourth-seeded Morristown.

Chatham 69, Whippany Park 45

The Cougars improve to 20-1. Jack Rooney scored 22 points including four 3-pointers and Colin McKenna added 21 points. The Cougars blew the game open early and led 31-15 at the half. Ryan Gaynor scored 22 points to pace the Wildcats.

Morris Catholic 60, Morristown-Beard 56

Amir Allen scored 29 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lift Morris Catholic to its first MCT semifinal in more than 30 years.

Jordan Spencer added 11 points for the third-seeded Crusaders. Morris Catholic trailed by as much as double digits in the second quarter and 45-40 at the half. Morris Catholic went on a 10-1 midway through the third quarter which included a pair of Mark Manfredi 3-point shots and an Allen dunk to take a 55-46 lead with three minutes left in regulation. Morris Catholic held on the rest of the way. Zach Dees scored 23 points and Brian Monaghan had 17 points for 11th-seeded Morristown-Beard..

Randolph 58, Delbarton 54

The second-seeded Rams defended their home court and improved to 16-4. Julian Boykins scored 19 points and Andrew Sciancalepore had 14 for the Rams.

The contest was close throughout with Randolph leading 26-24 at the half and 42-38 going into the final period. Stephen Clapp scored 17 points and Dan Cimaglia had 14 points for the seventh-seeded Green Wave.

Regular season

Montville 65, Dover 50

Alex Landis scored 18 points to pace the Mustangs. Justin Miklacki added 11 points and eight rebounds for Montville. Dwayne Brown led all scorers with 31 points for the Tigers.
