Pequannock pulls upset; Morris Knolls, Randolph win

Derek Nelson scored 20 points to lift Pequannock to a 50-45 upset win over Mountain Lakes in North 1, Group II boys basketball action on Tuesday. Jamie Morella and Grant Borovskis scored 10 points apiece for the Golden Panthers (14-11). Pequannock rallied with a 17-4 fourth-quarter rally. Pequannock plays Manchester Regional in the next round.Gleeson scored 25 points for the Lakers (16-8).

North 1, Group II

Jefferson 69, Glen Rock 60

Steven Breeman scored 29 points to pace the Falcons. Jared Shuster added 15 points. Jefferson outscored Glen Rock 22-9 in the first quarter. The Falcons improved to 17-7

North 1, Group II

Manchester Regional 58, Kinnelon 41

Matt Stewart scored 12 points for the Colts (10-16).

North 1, Group IV

Morristown 59, Paterson-Kennedy 46

Kevin Hoehn scored 18 points to lift the Colonials. Josh Szott scored 13 points and Rohan Waker added nine points for Morristown (17-7). A fourth-quarter 25-16 effort helped the Colonials pull away.

North 1, Group IV

Mount Olive 66, West Orange 61

The 14th-seeded Marauders earn an upset victory. A 19-11 third quarter helped them build a 56-44 advantage.

Mount Olive, 13-12 on the season, plays Morristown in the next round.

North 1, Group IV

Morris Knolls 65, Passaic Tech 58

Michael Chapman scored 19 points and Luke Urbanik scored 18 points to spark the Golden Eagles. Hunter Kaidy added 14 points and Nick Vittorio added 10 points for Morris Knolls. The Golden Eagles rallied with a 23-9 fourth-quarter run in the come-from-behind win.

Morris Knolls (16-9) plays Randolph in the next round.

North 1, Group IV

Randolph 61, Livingston 34

The Rams led 23-10 at the half and slowly pulled away. Andrew Sciancalepore scored 14 points and Zak Durbin notched 11 points for Randolph. The Rams improved to 20-6.

North 2, Group II

Newark Tech 59, Dover 43

Newark Tech pulled away with a 17-5 fourth quarter. Dwayne Brown and C.J. Scott scored nine points apiece for the Tigers (14-11).

North 2, Group II

Hanover Park 86, Morris Tech 45

Matt Fernicola scored 18 points and Matthew Winschuh scored 14 points to lift the Hornets. Hanover Park took control with a 26-7 first-quarter effort. The win lifts the Hornets to 20-7.

Steven Vachev had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Devils (6-20).

North 2, Group II

Newark Central 74, Parsippany 44

Declan Devens scored 11 points for the Red Hawks. Parsippany finished at 6-17.

North 2, Group II

Whippany Park 41, Lodi 39

Ryan Gaynor’s 8-point, 11-rebound performance helped the Wildcats advance. Whippany Park led 22-13 at halftime and held on for the win. Joe Michalewski and Stephen Tucker scored 10 points each for the Wildcats. Whippany Park faces Hackettstown in the next round.

North 2, Group II

Hackettstown 78, Madison 41

P. J. Mulcahy and Greg Vorel scored 12 points apiece for the Dodgers. Madison finishes at 6-16.
