Morris tops Sussex in commanding performance

Morris Catholic’s Amir Allen scored 26 points and dominated the second half of the Morris Sussex All-Star Classic held last month.

Morris won the contest 135-88. Delbarton’s Stephen Clapp scored 17 points and Randolph’s Andrew Sciancelepore added 14 for the Morris team.

High Point’s Brad Smolen had 12 points to lead Sussex in a game that was played at Hackettstown High School for the first time. The Sussex team included players from Warren County schools Hackettstown and North Warren.

Morris led 20-19 at the end of the first quarter and 52-42 at the half.

It was a strong second half sparked by strong play by Allen that put the game away for Morris. Morris went on a 20-5 run late in the third quarter and built a 92-66 advantage going into the final period.

Allen, who is from Randolph, scored 22 of his 26 points in the second half and 12 in the fourth quarter. Clapp and Sciancelepore also had strong final quarters to give Morris a dominating victory and end the scholastic season on a high note.
