Roxbury, Montville earn tournament wins

Doug Alexander scored 20 points and Anthony McMyne and Dante Sworn added 10 points apiece to lift Roxbury to a 53-32 triumph over Whippany Park in the Hopatcong Tournament in Friday boys basketball action.

The Gaels put together a strong second half, outscoring the Wildcats 30-12. Roxbury plays the winner of Hopatcong Voorhees in the tournament final. Mark Basista scored 10 points and Ryan Gaynor added nine points for Whippany Park.

Butler Tournament

Montville 65, Pompton Lakes 48

Josh Kaplan scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lift the Mustangs in opening round play.

Erik Wertheim scored 14 points, Josh Grossman had 13 points and Jacob Coleman had 12 for Montville (3-0). The Mustangs 21-11 third-quarter run gave them a 43-34 advantage going into the final period.

Parsippany 47, Butler 35

The Red Hawks improve to 2-1. Tommy Nowicki had 12 points and six steals, Declan Devens scored 12 points and Andrew Smith had nine point s and five assists for Parsippany. Parsippany led 28-9 at the half. Danny Polons had 13 for the host Bulldogs.

Cougar Classic

Hanover Park 75, Nutley 48

Brad Daugherty scored 30 points and snatched 17 rebounds for the 3-1 Hornets. Freshman Michael Boeckel had 10 points and five rebounds and John Crown had seven points and 10 assists for Hanover Park. The Hornets built a 34-13 advantage by halftime.

Dover Holiday Hoops

Lakeland 64, Boonton 55

Chris D’Avanzo scored 24 points and Sammy Asani had 10 points and three assists for the Bombers (0-3).

Dover 68, Kittatinny 49

The Tigers improve to 2-1.

J.P. Flynn Tournament

Poly Prep 46, West Morris 37

The Wolfpack dropped to 1-3. Kevin Leonard had seven points and Billy Froetscher added six points  for West Morris in a game played at the Delbarton School.

Wayne Valley 62, Delbarton 57

Steve Clapp scored 25 points for the Green Wave.

Iselin Kennedy 56, Morris Catholic 49

Amir Allen scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Justin Johannessen had nine points and four rebounds for the Crusaders in a game played at Mendham High.

Mendham 50, Sparta 29

The Minutemen led 20-8 at the half. Robert Annen scored 10 points to pace a balanced scoring attack for Mendham in a game played at Mendham High School. The Minutemen improve to 2-1.

Ranger Tournament

Morris Hills 68, Kinnelon 48

Chris Caraballo and Matt Toohey scored 20 points each to fuel the Scarlet Knights’ triumph. Bill Morin added 11 points for Morris Hills. Jaison Buchanan scored 11 points for the Colts in the contest held at Wallkill Valley High school.
